EU MILITARY ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINE DURING 2023-2025

Abstract

In the theses, the author highlights the key areas of the European Union’s military assistance to Ukraine during 2023-2025. It was with the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine (February 24, 2022) that the EU and its member states significantly increased military support for the Ukrainian armed forces, thereby helping Ukraine resist the Russian aggressor. EU military assistance is implemented in ensuring the military and defense needs of Ukraine; training the Ukrainian military; supplying ammunition and missiles, as well as in implementing common security commitments. Together with the military support provided by EU member states, the total EU support to the Ukrainian army is estimated at 49.2 billion euros, of which 6.1 billion euros were provided by the European Peace Facility, and 43.1 billion euros by EU member states. Among them, the largest donors were Germany, Poland, and France. The EU remains Ukraine’s steadfast partner in the face of Russia’s aggressive war and illegal attempts to annex Ukrainian territory. Despite a number of obstacles within the organization’s own member states, the EU continues to work tirelessly with international partners to provide Ukraine with the military support it needs and to hold Russia accountable for its actions.
