Challenges faced by veterans in civilian life are natural to their experience, but they become problems when the environment and community are inaccessible or even hostile to veterans, do not understand their experience and do not provide adequate support. Despite the fact that most veterans successfully cope with all the challenges of returning from the frontline, all veterans need basic support. The current state policy on veterans and their families needs to be modernised, as it poses serious risks to the beneficiaries and Ukrainian society as a whole. Therefore, an updated unified state policy on veterans and their families should be in place, which will include: a component of the global strategy of Ukraine's economic breakthrough, the basis of national security and defence capability, and the prerequisites for the formation of a modern Ukrainian political nation. After all, Ukrainian soldiers deserve the highest level of recognition and support in Ukrainian society. The state policy on veterans and their families should guarantee a decent and safe way home for each and every Ukrainian soldier.
