CORTISOL LEVEL AS A MARKER OF STRESS RESPONSES IN ATHLETES OF DIFFERENT SPORTS

Abstract

The thesis presents a theoretical and methodological analysis of cortisol levels as an informative indicator of overtraining and stress development. The work examines modern approaches to studying stress reactions and the factors that regulate them. Special attention is given to the dual impact of stress on athletes’ bodies during physical exertion: on one hand, it can facilitate the mobilization of protective mechanisms and adaptation to external challenges; on the other hand, excessive or prolonged exposure can lead to dysfunctional changes in the functioning of organs and systems. It is emphasized that physical exercise leads to the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone, adrenaline, and glucocorticoids, which indicates that physical exertion acts as a stressor involving both physical and psycho-emotional components.
