MODERN DEVELOPMENT OF ADAPTIVE SPORTS: PARACANOE

The abstract presents a contemporary analysis of the development of the adaptive sport – paracanoe. The paper examines the current approaches of the International Canoe Federation to improving the competition system in canoe and kayak events for individuals with health impairments. Particular attention is given to athlete classification rules, especially the assessment of athletes’ health conditions to determine their eligibility to participate in paracanoe competitions. An important aspect of paracanoe development is the classification of athletes into sport classes according to the degree of impairment. Special emphasis is placed on the implementation of digital technologies, including the use of specialized platforms for the transfer and storage of confidential documentation and the organization of webinars for coaches. The International Canoe Federation (Paracanoe) promotes awareness among professionals in paddling sports regarding the rules and the classification system for athletes with permanent health impairments. In order to develop paracanoe and engage as many countries and athletes as possible, the relevant documents have been translated into multiple languages.
