The thesis presents a consideration of social service and the importance of its role in supporting people in difficult life circumstances. The paper examines the concept of social service and the origins of this phenomenon. In the context of the study, the importance of social service as an effective mechanism for supporting the population in the context of social transformations, crises and humanitarian disasters is revealed. The authors emphasise the importance of taking into account historical experience for the effective formation of a modern social assistance system.
