Abstract

This paper proposes a concept for an automated control system (ACS) for container handling in a port. The system combines ideas from existing ACS, such as marine cranes for bulk materials and containers, as well as technical solutions from patent US20160376132A1. The main goal is to create a remotely controlled ACS that includes a rail system for linear movement, a hydraulic drive for bending the lifting boom (instead of metal cables), and an automatic Twist-lock system for gripping containers. The paper presents a conceptual diagram of the future ACS.
